So I know it’s haram to backbite or say harsh words that may hurt someone such as “god damn you’re ugly”..
..but is it haram if I am thinking it but never say it?
ps* when I say “ugly” it doesn’t always refer to looks, just an example

If you think it and don’t say it then in that case it isn’t haram, and it isn’t considered as a sin.

Salaam Dee, according to the hadith about this matter, a thought will not count as a sin if one does not act upon it.

I think we should try to avoid such thoughts but we’re only humans. The fact that someone restrains from saying it/acting upon it is great.

I’ve heard that there’s no sin if the thought comes to your mind but if you entertain the thought then you’re willingly doing so…that’s bad

I guess we’re supposed to try and keep away from it both, mentally and verbally. From my knowledge, it’s not haraam, but then again if we’re striving to be good muslims we shouldn’t think that way because it’s hurting us before anyone else.
